Neurodiversity affirming

At Sprout Kids we align ourselves with the principles of neurodiversity affirming practices to foster and promote acceptance and self-advocacy. We acknowledge that a neurodivergent client processes and experiences the world differently, and this influences social preferences, communication and learning styles. We advocate for inclusion and the fostering of environments that support all cognitive styles. In therapy sessions clients are facilitated to develop self-awareness in a way that honours their unique experiences, abilities and ways of interacting with the world. This process also facilitates the development of self-advocacy skills and a positive self-image.

Collaborative

Collaborative

We believe that clients exist within a network of supports that include their family and teachers. Trained in the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach, Calista collaborates with various stakeholders and the client to support successful participation. The CPS model helps kids and caregivers solve problems that are causing concerning behaviours. It does not focus on the behaviours themselves and does not modify them. This model is rooted in the principle that behaviours are forms of communication and that external factors can limit a child's capacity to cope.

We believe that every child has the potential to grow and flourish, given the right support and care. We believe that every child is unique, and therefore, requires an individualised approach to therapy. We also believe that children thrive in safety and connection and we strive to create a safe and nurturing environment that promotes exploration and growth.
